The Unexpected Visit - By Felicia
Out of the silent night came a crash that shook the whole house.
“Everyone okay?” Dad yelled.
Voices answered from bedrooms upstairs and down, groggy but present and accounted for - all except one. Where was David, my big brother? And where did that crash come from?
“David? David?” I yelled.
I suddenly heard a squeak, then I could feel a shadow looming over me. Wait. That was David! But something seemed just a little off about him…
“David! You’re back!”
“Who do you think I am? David? Noooooo.” the figure said. “Your real big brother is not coming back anytime soon. I took his body, and his soul is hidden somewhere where you’ll never even think to look. To get the real him back, you must defeat me. Otherwise, he becomes my slave.”
I first tried hurting him with a piece of the chandelier that had fallen down in the crash. After stabbing this evil spirit three times, he said something that completely changed my point of view.
“Be careful about what you are doing, midget. You are stabbing your own brother’s body, but I, as a spirit, remain unharmed.”
Horrified, I dropped the chandelier and decided to choose a different strategy: words.
My next attempt was to insult him.
“YOU ARE A BIG, FAT, EVIL DUMMY SPIRIT!!!!” I shouted. “STUPID ENOUGH TO MESS WITH ME. DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH MY FAMILY, OR ELSE.”
Cool as a cucumber, he replied: “Or else what?
Furious but defenseless, I screamed: “SHUT UP!!!!!!! JUST SHUT UP!!!!!!”
“If you don’t want to hear me, cover your ears, as I have a lot more to say.”
Frustrated as I was, I wouldn’t give up. My only other choice was to compliment the monster, which I wanted to try.
“Ok, ok. Fine. I just have to admit that you are very good at intimidating people.”
He looked at me, pleased with himself. I immediately knew that this was the correct strategy. I continued:
“Thank you for not hurting me so far. You are a very kind spirit.”
At this, he became irate. “THAT’S NOT TRUE!!!”
“Oh yes it is. You are the kindest (and only) spirit I have ever met in my life!”
He then screamed so loud I could feel my fingers vibrating. As the scream faded away, I could see the light return to my brother’s eyes.
“David? David? Do you know what just happened?”
“I remember everything. That scream was truly horrifying.”
I hugged my brother. At last, he was back.
The End.
