Earth Hour: An annual global movement at 8:30 PM today
By Lela S.
Precisely at 8:30 to 9:30 PM EST today, we will be going through a national Earth Hour. Earth Hour is a global grassroots movement uniting all of us to take action on environmental issues and protect the planet, says the official Earth Hour website. Starting as a small lights-out event in Sydney, Australia, it’s grown to engage millions of supporters all over the world – now including us!
During Earth Hour, which lasts for one hour every year at the end of March, we turn off all the lights. However, we don’t have to limit ourselves to just that; we can do a variety of things for our environment. For example, as well as turning off the lights, Earth Hour’s official website suggests to reconnect with nature: you can explore nearby parks, beaches, or other natural spaces.
Other activities that are recommended are cooking up a meal with family or friends, spending time with loved ones, learn and/or try something new, connecting with your community, getting active, or discovering your artistic side. What are you going to do for Earth Hour?
