The Controversy of Playing Video Games - By Felicia
What’s your favorite video game? Roblox, Fortnite, Among Us... My favorite game is Minecraft. Today, I’ll tell you all about the pros and cons of video games, and my perspective on them.
Firstly, let’s look at the pros. In video games such as Minecraft and Roblox, you can socialize and talk with your friends in the chat during times like now, where chatting in real life isn’t the best option.
Secondly, in Minecraft, you can install mods and make your own, which can teach you coding. I learned how to make Minecraft mods when I was seven years old, and believe me, it was so much fun! You can also make complex programs using command blocks in Minecraft creative mode. This teaches you more about technology and makes you more familiar with it.
Thirdly, games like Among Us can teach you how to strategize efficiently in a team. In Among Us, you have to figure out who is the impostor, while trying not to get killed. You have to communicate in an accurate, careful, and concise manner, since you only have 2 minutes to talk. Being able to read a situation and adjust your work strategy as needed to ensure a smooth process is highly valued, but not really taught anywhere.
Now, let’s explore the cons. The first one is that when you’re playing video games, you’re usually just sitting in a chair, doing no physical activity. This is really bad for your health.
The second one is that if you’re not educated in online safety, it could be very, very dangerous. We all know that you shouldn’t talk to strangers, but this rule also applies to video games. Giving out private information in the chat, talking to friends or not, is a big no-no.
The final one is that video games can be addicting. If you spend too much time sitting in front of a screen, playing video games, you could become addicted, which is a pretty big sign that you should stop.
We’ve discussed the pros and cons, but what’s my opinion on this? For me, I play Minecraft on the weekends, 1 hour each session. I feel that video games are good stimulation, and since I don’t play Minecraft that often anymore, I have come to the conclusion that video games are okay in moderation. Thank you!
