Québec starts the New Year with 17K+ COVID cases >:(

I’m just disappointed. 17,122 COVID cases, which is a record, on the first day of 2022, even with the curfew? Even the number of hospitalizations has increased, this time by 98, to a total of 1161, with 153 in intensive care.
The vaccination rate remains the same with 89 per cent of people ages five and older having received one dose and 82 per cent double-vaccinated. With 27,740 third doses administered in the previous 24 hours, 17 per cent of the population older than five has received a booster shot.
Quebec's three main opposition parties are criticizing the provincial government's decision to impose a 10 p.m. curfew, which began New Year's Eve, arguing the health order is a sign of the government's failure to prepare. Apparently, if the premier had acted earlier, then there would be less of a need for such strong measures.
Because the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is much more transmittable than the Delta variant, it is recommended that Montrealers adopt N95 masks over cloth or the typical hospital masks.
We’re going to be in this global health emergency for a while.
