On October 1, 2021, an oil Spill happened off the coast of California, beaches closed lots of animals are threatened. At least 126,000 gallons of cruds were spilled into the water of the Orange County. Some experts are afraid of the oil's impact on the millions of birds that migrate through the state on their way south each fall. Also, crude oil can destroy large amounts of phytoplankton which is a part of lots of ocean creatures’ diets. As of October 11, 2021, the rescue organization has recovered and treated 27 oiled birds.
