Another Record-Breaking DDoS Attack Spotted - Cloudflare

Again?

On June 15, 2021, the Minecraft server Hypixel was DDoS attacked, which I wrote about in an article. However, five months later, another distributed denial-of-service attack has peaked just under 2 Tbps, making it one of the largest ever recorded. Cloudflare says it has detected and stopped a multi-vector attack launched by over 15,000 bots running a variant of a malware called Mirai, which turns networked devices running Linux into remotely controlled bots that can be used as part of a botnet in large-scale network attacks. The attack was run using Mirai on Internet of Things (IoT) devices and unpatched GitLab instances. According to Cloudflare, it lasted around a minute. Recent reports show that 2021 will be yet another record year for the number of DDoS attacks carried out.
